Descriptions/Features
SCL-LIME REMOVER is formulated to remove white salt weeping from the edge of the joints between stone. The white deposit is a build-up of salts. These salts are known in the tile industry as “lime putty” or “lime deposit” coming up from the setting bed. The salts will return and will need to be cleaned when this occurs. The white deposits on the surface are the result of no waterproofing membrane installation or poor installation practices.

SCL-Lime Remover is an acid-based cleaner but yet it gently dissolves the lime without eating into the stone; unlike other acid cleaners required to be very acidic to remove the lime. From our extensive research and experiences into stains analysis and stone care, the formulation of SCL-Lime Remover ensures that the cleaning effectiveness is maintained while bringing out the best from the stone.

Application on the type of stone:
All types of natural stone and man-made tiles, except on polished surface marble.

Direction to use:

  • No dilution to using SCL Lime Remover. Just pour and saturate the “lime putty” with SCL Lime Remover for 5 to 10 minutes. When the lime is softened by the chemical, use 3M-Black Scrubbing Pad gently scrub away the lime. Big chunk of lime required a scraper.
  • Remember to rinse the stone surface with SCL Stoneclean-Xtra(pH9.6) to neutralize the crystalline structure inside the stones.
  • Dilution: mix one cup of SCL Stoneclean-Xtra with 15 cups of water.
  • Available packing size: 1-litre / 5-litres / 25-litres

Important Notes:

  • Remember to rinse the stone surface with SCL Stoneclean-Xtra (pH9.6) to neutralize the crystalline structure inside the stone.
  • Do not use SCL Lime Remover on polished surface marble.

Preventive Measures:
Option 1: Provide daily cleaning to the affected area with SCL Stoneclean(pH7.0).
Option 2: Remove recurring “lime putty” with SCL Lime Remover once a week or bi-weekly. It is difficult to remove big chunk of limes. Hence, do not leave the limes unattended for a long                    period.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Option 3: Apply SCL Stain-B Penetrating Sealer(1st Coat) and SCL Sealer Coat(2nd Coat) to retard the limes from recurring in the next 3 to 6 months. Take note that SCL Stain-B                                    Penetrating Sealer and SCL Sealer Coat will darken the stone surface.                                                                                                                                                                                                    Option 4: Carry out the “injection” method for permanent solution. This method of application is only applicable to horizontal surface. You may seek further advice from Mcare’s                                     Representative.

Disadvantages of using high pressure-jet washing are as follow.

  • High pressure-jet washing reduce performance of a penetrating sealer within 3 months.
  • High pressure-jet washing pushes excessive water into the interior of the stone/tiles; thus helping the stone/tiles to grow algae, mildew and limes deposit.
  • High pressure-jet washing pushes oil spillage deeper into the interior of the stone.
  • Long term using pressure-jet washing weaken each individual mineral inside the stone.
